Imagine having 60 seconds to pitch your dream to a panel of investors? That is exactly the opportunity Jennifer Powell, owner of The Hairports Wash and Blow Dry Bar was given on Entrepreneur’s Elevator Pitch in California.
In a one-minute elevator pitch, she shared her vision of having Hairports in airports across the country to serve the thousands of people who travel every day.
Hairports for the airports.
Jennifer was able to share her passion and take her dream one step closer to reality.
So, what happened? The investors thought it was a very clever pitch and a cool idea. Unfortunately, she was not chosen by the investors.
Don’t lose your passion.
That’s not the end of the story. While Jennifer did not get out of the elevator, she did get a contract to open a new Hairports Wash and Blow Dry Bar at Philadelphia Airport. It is projected to open in 2020.
Thanks to her appearance on Elevator Pitch, David Meltzer, who was named in Top 100 Business Coaches by Marshall Goldsmith, is now Jennifer’s coach and mentor. She is also in talks with investors to make her vision a reality.
Lessons from Jennifer’s Elevator Pitch experience.
Jennifer wants to share what she learned from her Elevator Pitch experience.
Take a chance on yourself. – It all works out, and you don’t know what you’re capable of or what the outcome is until you put yourself out there.
Never give up on your dream. – If you have a dream keep working toward it because anything can happen.
Believe in yourself and others will follow. – Just because the investors on Elevator Pitch did not give Jennifer a deal doesn’t mean things are not happening. At Hairports they are super excited and thrilled for the Philadelphia airport opportunity.
Stay true to yourself and your passion. – Hairports Wash and Blow Dry Bars is currently obtaining a federal certificate for a fully owned and operated women’s business. They are also looking to expand into Newark and LaGuardia Airports.
Remember why you wanted to do what you do. – When you remember what motivated you in the first place it will fuel your enthusiasm and others will want to help you. Gaining a mentor and coach is an invaluable asset.
Stay focused. – Dreams come true if you keep pursuing them.
